AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS NEWS: Set to air live on November 20th at 7pm on ABC. The Country husband & wife duo Thompson Square are nominated for new artist of the year. The American Country Awards (Fan Voted) handed them seven nominations.


ARTIST NEWS: Congrats to George Strait, Dean Dillon and Bubba Strait (songwriters), and the entire MCA promotional staff on landing Strait’s “Here For A Good Time” on top of this week’s chart. The song is his 58th chart topper, and his first-ever as a writer. That-a-boy, George!
 
BUSINESS BUZZ: Warner Music Nashville (WMN) has promoted Rebekah Sterk to the newly created position of Director/A&R, Film/TV and Special Projects. Her kudos are: Associate Executive producer for The Original Songwriter Demos and Director/A&R for the soundtrack to the just-released Footloose. Rebekah has been with WMN A&R department for eight years.  
 
CD RELEASES: Sarah Darling, Steel Magnolia, SHeDAISY, Samantha Landrum, Phil Vassar and Chuck Wicks are among the artists on the bill for Let Us In Nashville: A Tribute To Linda McCartney. Proceeds from the Nov. 7 Ryman Auditorium concert will benefit the Women And Cancer Fund. Studio mastered versions of the artists’ Sir Paul McCartney covers will be on a 17-track album out Nov. 21 on Reviver Records.
 
CHARITY NEWS: CHRISTMAS 4 KIDS supporter Charlie Daniels has asked his friends to once again grace the stage of the Ryman for the annual Christmas 4 Kids benefit show on Nov. 21st at 7pm. Confirmed so far are Charlie Daniels Band, Sawyer Brown, Colt Ford, Phil Vassar & Joe Nichols. This event is the sister to the famous bus tour on Monday, Dec. 12th from 5pm to 9pm at the Hendersonville, Tenn. Super Wal-Mart on 204 North Henderson Lane. Adults $5.00, Children 2 to 12 ($2.00) Under 2 FREE, Maximum Family $20.00.

CMA NEWS: The 45th Annual CMA Awards, hosted by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood, airs live from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Wednesday, Nov. 9th at 7pm CST on ABC. Performers include Jason Aldean, The Band Perry, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Faith Hill, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, Taylor Swift, Thompson Square, Keith Urban, Martina McBride, Scotty McCreery, Sugarland, Zac Brown Band and Chris Young, plus Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter singing their hit collaboration “You and Tequila,” Rascal Flatts and and Natasha Bedingfield singing their current hit duet “Easy,” and co-hosts Paisley and Underwood in the first live televised performance of their No. 1 song, “Remind Me.”
 
DEEPEST SYMPATHY: Heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends, fans and band members who lost Joel “Taz” DiGregorio, the original keyboard player with the Charlie Daniels Band. Taz played with Charlie for more than 40 years and died in a car crash while heading to meet the tour bus on October 12. Taz—described by Charlie as “One of my best friends”—will be sorely missed. He played on dozens of CDB albums and co-wrote many of the band’s biggest hits, including “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” Condolences also go out to the family, friends and fans of the LoCash Cowboys. Their front instrumentalist Ryan “Troop” Jones, 30, passed away last week.

Capitol Records: Dierks Bentley celebrates his latest No. 1 with “I Am The Only One.” The CD is set for release for Feb. 2012. It also includes the patriotic single, “Home.”


MEDIA NEWS: The RIAA has issued gold certification for The Band Perry’s self-titled debut album for sales exceeding 1 million. The RIAA also has issued platinum certification for Jake Owen’s Barefoot Blue Jean Night.
 
NASHVILLE SONGWRITERS’ ASSOCIATION NEWS (NSAI) & Nashville Songwriters’ Hall of Fame:  I love every minute of it! Country superstars Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson, along with hit-songwriters John
Bettis, Thom Schuyler and Allen Shamblin, were inducted into the  Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. It was the organization’s 41st Anniversary Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony, which was held October 16 at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel and presented by AT&T. The aforementioned quintet and their musical contributions were celebrated before a capacity audience of 1,000 plus.  NSAI is the place to be for music lovers, songwriters, and get educated about the world of songwriting.
