Caroline Jones Releases “Silver Bells” with New Zealand’s The Trenwiths

Fresh off the announcement of her place as one of the guest judges for the prestigious American Songwriter 2021 Lyric Contest, indie country/pop singer-songwriter Caroline Jones has joined forces with New Zealand bluegrass group The Trenwiths for a festive, foot-stomping two-track holiday collection, Silver Bells. Credited as Caroline Jones and The Trenwiths, the collection includes upbeat bluegrass renditions of holiday classics “Silver Bells” and “Winter Wonderland.” Silver Bells is now available to download and stream.

Spending time in New Zealand for the past few months, Jones, who is known for her genre-expanding musical offerings, wanted to collaborate with artists who were culturally significant to the country she was visiting. Her research led her to Paul Trenwith, a founding member of The Hamilton County Bluegrass Band. After connecting with Paul and discovering a shared love for raw, live music, Jones felt an instant musical connection. Paul also brought in his sons Sam Trenwith and Tim Trenwith, and mandolinist Keith MacMillan, who together are known as The Trenwiths. “The Trenwiths and I recorded these two songs, stomping down-home bluegrass style, at Neil Finn’s famous Roundhead Studios in Auckland. I have adored working with them, and hopefully we will also record a few traditional folk songs down the road,” Jones said. “It’s hard to put into words how truly down-to-earth, genuine and funny this family band is, but hopefully folks will feel it in the music we have made thus far.  They are an absolute blast! And I’m so happy I get to spread that joy with ‘Silver Bells,’ as a holiday gift to my fans.”

“Caroline’s a delight to play music with – she was immediately open to trying a different approach to these Christmas classics, and with her incredible vocal and instrumental skills, really made them come alive,” Paul Trenwith said. “With both the Hamilton County Bluegrass Band and The Trenwiths, we’ve had a ‘tradition’ of putting a bluegrass beat to songs that weren’t necessarily intended to be played that way. I, along with my sons Sam and Tim, and our great friend Keith, are so happy that Caroline and her team wanted to be part of that process. We might have created some ‘new’ Christmas standards!”

Jones has been busy creating new music throughout 2020, releasing an EP for her current single “All of the Boys,” which is currently on the rise at U.S. country radio. She co-wrote the song with mentor, friend and country icon Zac Brown. Jones has also been steadily releasing new music as a treat to fans and a reflection of her multifaceted artistry. Recent releases include the stripped-back “What a View,” the upbeat pop track “Intimacy,” and the soulful rendition of old jazz standard “The Party’s Over.” Jones is currently working on her sophomore studio album, expected to arrive in 2021.
