Since forming in Boston in 2009, Nashville-based string band Della Mae has established a reputation as a charismatic live act comprising some of the finest players in bluegrass, Americana and beyond. Today the band announces a string of tour dates in support of their forthcoming recording, The Butcher Shoppe EP. The GRAMMY-nominated band will embark on their tour Feb. 21 starting with the WinterGrass Festival in Bellevue,WA, other stops include Washington, DC, Nashville, TN, and Chicago, IL.
Special guests on the tour include original Della Mae guitarist Avril Smith. Grammy-winning banjo player Alison Brown will join the band during their six shows with Steve Martin and Martin Short this spring.
Showcasing the most-requested fan-favorites including two brand-new original compositions, the EP (recorded at The Butcher Shoppe Studio in Nashville) also features a number of guest appearances by Molly Tuttle, Alison Brown, and Avril Smith. This marks the first new music for the band since 2015’s eponymous album. The Butcher Shoppe EP, produced by the band, will be released on March 1, 2019.
Their second single “Sixteen Tons” is available at all major music outlets today. Originating from different musical backgrounds and regions across the US and Canada, each member brings distinct elements that contribute to Della Mae’s unique sound. Their music draws on different genres and perfectly balances roots-based tradition with more contemporary influences.
Alison Brown says, “Della Mae takes no prisoners! Some people might try to pigeon-hole them as simply an all female group but they would be missing the point. Della Mae has it all – great singing, great playing, great material – and more than that, they know how to put on a great show. Musically, they occupy a unique place at the crossroads of bluegrass, blues and Americana, territory not always native to the five string banjo, and that’s an inspiring challenge for me whenever I get to play with them. I’m really proud of Della Mae for all they have accomplished and equally excited to see where they may go next.”
