The Chicago singer-songwriter’s intimate new single arrives October 14, ahead of a full-band pop/punk-rock version.
CHICAGO — Harmonie Breeze is stepping into a new phase of her career with “Ever Again – Acoustic,” arriving October 14. Written by Breeze and recorded at Studio 2020 Chicago in Wicker Park, the song introduces her solo work with a close-up of the songwriting and vocals at its center.
The track grew from a personal question: whether the life that looks “right” to everyone else is actually true to who you are. “It’s coming to that realization that trying to do what seems like ‘the right way’ may not be what’s true to who you are,” Breeze says. “There can be so much societal pressure to live a life that isn’t yours because it’s what everyone expects.”
“Ever Again” moves from the opening admission, “I get it wrong like every time,” toward the firmer realization, “I can’t change who I am.” Its acoustic arrangement keeps that shift in focus, with a personal reference to Breeze’s beloved pets adding another intimate detail to the song.
The acoustic release is the first of two planned versions. Breeze expects to follow it in roughly two to four weeks with a full-band rendition that turns the song into a high-energy pop/punk-rock track. Her influences for this chapter include Hayley Williams of Paramore, No Doubt, Ann Wilson, Veruca Salt, Kathleen Hanna and Conan Gray, alongside a broader musical background in metal, punk, new wave and R&B.
The solo launch arrives during an active stretch across music, live performance and film. Breeze continues to front the Midwest cover band Sushi Roll, with approximately 40 performances remaining across the Midwest this year before the group’s annual four-day residency in Key West, Florida.
She also appears as Molly, friend and drummer to Andy, played by Carson Lueders, in the feature film Beyond Belief, now playing theatrically across the United States. The film follows the pursuit of dreams through themes of grief and perseverance and also features James C. Burns, Bob Hartman and John Schlitt of Petra.
For Breeze, original music is now taking a central place in the months ahead. “This coming year and the next few months leading up are hugely focused on the debut of my career as a solo artist,” she says.
“Ever Again – Acoustic” arrives October 14, followed by the planned full-band version in the weeks thereafter.
