Led by the Billboard and Mediabase Top 40 and rising title track “Young Love & Saturday Nights,” written by Jesse Frasure, Ashley Gorley and Josh Thompson with a posthumous songwriting credit to David Bowie, the project is Young’s first new album since 2021’s Famous Friends. ARTIST NEWS:

With an illustrious career spanning thirty-plus years encompassing sales of more than 16 million albums, 36 radio singles and numerous hits, including seven No. 1’s, Country music 90’s superstar John Michael Montgomery is officially announcing that he will be retiring from touring by the end of 2025. Montgomery broke the news to his fans first on his social media platforms on New Year’s Day. It’s been a great run. “I’ll never forget the first time I stepped foot on a tour bus for my first show back in 1992, with my first single ‘Life’s A Dance’ just coming out on radio,” said Montgomery. “It was so surreal to me. And, of course like any new artist would, I worried about how long it would last and hoped it would not be a ‘flash in the pan’ career. So every album, every song, and every year of being able to do what I love for so many years, and for the fans who have supported me and my music, I’ve cherished those moments very deeply. So, a BIG thank you to them all! I’m not saying I’m never gonna step on stage and perform again. So I’m sure there will be some situations where I just need to do a show here and there because I’ll miss that too much. But I just feel the time has come to say goodbye to the road life.” Tour dates and tickets at https://www.johnmichael.com.

BAND NEWS:

After two decades as one of Texas Country’s definitive bands – a mantle they have carried proudly to a massive, nationwide audience – Randy Rogers Band stand on a career milestone as they enter the 20-year anniversary of their sophomore album, Rollercoaster (August 24, 2004). In celebration, RRB kicked off their anniversary year by performing to a sold-out crowd in Steamboat, CO, at The MusicFest’s The Big Tent. As a part of the festival’s headlining acts, RRB delivered a one-of-a-kind tailored setlist playing Rollercoaster front to back, while sprinkling in hits garnered over the past 20 years. Album collaborators Wade Bowen, Cody Canada, and Radney Foster also made guest special appearances. The rollercoaster of a celebration was complete with an exclusive set design photo booth, new re-worked anniversary logo and customized lighting to illuminate the packed-out tent. “One of the funny things about being around this long is we’ve got nine albums’ worth of songs, and you can only cram so many in a setlist.” Rogers shares. “We wanted to do something special as an ode to the feeling of those 24-year old’s who had no idea what we were doing, but somehow ended up making a record that changed everything. I hope I remember these jams. Happy Steamboat!” Listen to RRB’s new album Homecoming here: https://www.randyrogersband.com.  #RandyRogersBand.

He had an old 8-track player. Honestly, I was probably listening to bluegrass before I ever heard any other country song. Papaw introduced me to Patty Loveless and Ricky Skaggs, and that’s probably when I found country music.” #BritTaylor.

DUO NEWS:

Two Texas natives — 6’4” guitar-wielding Level Two sommelier Brock Butler, and bona fide rocker with Warped Tour cred and a razor-sharp wit, Ryan Garrett — walked into Nashville’s Red Door Saloon. Several drinks later, Heartwreckers stumbled out. The new duo — refreshingly blunt singer-songwriters with an endless supply of hooks and melodies, but absolutely no filter — released its debut single, “Shut Up,” on January 19. Find “Shut Up” here: https://lnk.to/heartwreckersshutup.  “I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been writing songs in Nashville and you throw out an idea and everyone in the room says, ‘Oh, that’s sick!’” Butler says. “But then they immediately follow it with, ‘But we can’t say that.’” Adds Garrett, “And I’m like, ‘We can say whatever the f*ck we want.” That credo informs the whole of Heartwreckers’ upcoming EP, Shut Up And Drink, a collection of five envelope-pushing country songs all written by Butler and Garrett, reflecting the unblinking lyrical and sonic approach the duo applies to country music. Produced by Andrew Baylis (Jelly Roll, Austin Snell, Pecos & The Rooftops), Garrett describes the project’s sound as “Country. Ass. Rock. With the periods!” Shut Up And Drink is set for release on May 24, supported by a run of live show dates beginning February 9 including performances at the 28th Annual Key West Songwriters Festival, Presented by BMI. Music & tour info: https://www.realheartwreckers.com.

EMERGING ARTIST NEWS:

“Airplane” is the title of the new single released Jan 19 by emerging artist Jordan James (Eclipse Music Group) who co-wrote the song with Michael Whitworth (Jelly Roll, Mitchell Tenpenny) and Dallas Wilson (of the Heart Wranglers).  James explains: “That day in the studio I had told them a story back when I was 17 years old. I had a moment to fall into something, but it was too good to be true, and I was too stubborn. In the end I was watching an airplane take off that I should have been on, but I wasn’t on it. This song has been in the works for a couple years now, and it’s time to share that story!”  Listen to “Airplane” here.  Jordan James is no stranger to writing hit songs and it shows. A seasoned songwriter from LA by way of Atlanta, James has been banging out pop hits for much of his career but a recent revival has brought this one-time / one-song / once-in-a-lifetime Kenny Rogers duet partner home to country music. With enough flannel in his voice to authenticate his dirt road country leanings laid over an ample amount of polish on his sound, James is the kind of artist that can appeal to country fans from nearly any era.  More at https://www.iamjordanjames.com.

INDIE NEWS:

Southern Dreams Entertainment flagship recording artist Andy Pursell has announced the release of his new single titled “I Need You Bad.” Penned by Terri Dennis and Jimmy Yeary, and produced by Mark Dreyer, the release is in keeping with the successful momentum of Pursell’s waterfall series introduced in 2023 (including “Right Amount Of Wrong” and “Last Load To Heaven” currently at country radio now). The storyline of the song features a lovestruck fool who falls head-over-heels beguiled by an entrancing woman whose irresistible allure fuels a lovesick aching desire and fires temptations much too strong to resist. A classic country arrangement complements simplistic, straightforward lyrics. Pursell’s vocal flips, spotlighted in the chorus, depict the infatuation while frolicking organ progressions enliven the playful, weak-in-the-knees admission. The rhythm section rocks steady weaving in wailing guitar solos that echo a desperate plea too honest to ignore. “This is the first love song I’ve ever recorded. It’s the typical love story of a heartsick guy who just can’t seem to lock down the girl of his dreams,” introduced the Florida-based Pursell. “The overall vibe of the song is what drew me and it just felt good when we recorded it. I love the guitar solo. The sound tells the story that I wanted to convey.” ”I Need You Bad” is the lead single as the launch of his 2024 waterfall series. I’m very proud of this song and the work we put into recording and releasing it, and I’m also proud of the personal connection it evokes for the people who enjoy the lyrics.” Born in Winchester, VA – birthplace of Patsy Cline – Jake grew up influenced by country legends like Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash. At age 11, after being gifted a guitar from his great-grandmother, he taught himself how to play chords from a poster on his wall. ROCK NEWS:

Grammy® Award winner and 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Sheryl Crow has released “Evolution,” the title track from her upcoming 11th full-length studio album, Evolution, out on March 29. Listen to the contemplative new track here . The song conveys Crow’s uneasiness about artificial intelligence, its impact on the planet and humanity. “As a mom, I want to leave a better world for my children, a healthier planet – is A.I. going to be a benevolent partner in these goals or not? It’s unsettling, and this song deals with those anxieties,” says Crow. “I wrote the song with just me on guitar and vocals, sent it to my producer, Mike Elizondo and said, ‘this is bigger than me, can you take a crack at it?’” Elizondo’s (Dr. Dre, Maroon 5, Keith Urban, Gary Clark Jr.) production on the track brings Crow into new sonic territory, delivering blockbuster cinematics and a monolithic guitar solo by Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello. “To me, Tom’s playing comes from some other planet,” says Crow. Walker Montgomery starts the New Year with the release of an acoustic version of one of his favorite songs, “Time Stood Still,” from his current EP, Work To Do. Stream here: https://ffm.to/timestoodstill-acoustic.  Walker co-wrote the song with Cooper Bascom, Jack Hummel and Kaylin Roberson and his smooth baritone vocal fits perfectly with the track. “I think it is easier for me to relate to love songs just naturally because I love ‘Love,’ and I think they are easy to listen to.  I’m drawn to great melodies, especially when they are paired with nostalgia,” Walker comments.  Chosen as an “Artist to Watch” by Country Now, Music Mayhem Magazine, Sounds Like Nashville, The Boot and others, Walker Montgomery knows a thing or two about family tradition, but is also striving to build his own legacy. The son of John Michael Montgomery and nephew of Montgomery Gentry’s Eddie Montgomery was raised away from the spotlight in Nicholasville, Kentucky, but moved to Nashville and is carving a path all his own on today’s country scene. Montgomery’s pedigree is matched only by his passion for real country music, and he’s already put his classically-inspired, honey-bourbon vocal to use on a self-penned debut hit (“Simple Town,” over 5.2 Million Spotify streams) and the romantic power-ballad, “She Don’t Know,” (featured on the 2022 Rust EP).
