ARTIST NEWS: In August, The Bellamy Brothers were recognized for their 35 years of musical contributions at the inaugural Classic Gold Music Awards, at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida. Nominated for the Legends and Pioneers Award, the Bellamy Brothers were recognized for their impressive career and role in pioneering multiple platinum hits that crossed over between country and pop genres. Other legendary artists recognized included Connie Francis, 5th Dimension and Isaac Hayes.
BABY NEWS: Congrats to Big Kenny Alphin and his wife Christiev on the adoption of a baby boy. Dakota Jefferson Holiday Alphin was adopted domestically in July and joins four-year-old brother Lincoln.
BENEFIT NEWS: Capitol’s Dierks Bentley will host the fifth annual Nashville Miles & Music For Kids charity motorcycle ride Oct 17th. The ride kicks off at Harley-Davidson of Columbia (TN) and ends with a Riverfront Park concert by Bentley & guests Miranda Lambert, Jerrod Niemann (just certified GOLD 500,000+ Sales) and others. Proceeds will benefit the Monroe Carell, Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt Hospital.
BUSINESS BUZZ: Quarterback Records has signed Matt Gary. Gary’s new single “I’m Just Sayin’ ” will be released Oct 11th. It is off his debut CD titled – Matt Gary… Broadcast executive Clark Taylor, music journalist Vernell Hackett and photographer/videographer John Lee Montgomery III have teamed to form the Nashville branch of Media Maverick LLC, a media training company.
CD NEWS: Little Big Town is celebrating their fourth studio album’s, THE REASON WHY, as it recently debuted at #1 on the Billboard Albums Chart and #5 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart across all genres with 41,940 albums sold — making THE REASON WHY the highest debuting CD of the country band’s career. In addition, the band is celebrating a 2010 CMA Awards nomination in the Vocal Group of the Year category — marking Little Big Town’s eighth nomination and fifth in that category from the prestigious organization. GET WELL WISHES: To country icon Merle Haggard, who has cancelled 10 September tour dates as he battles a chest infection. The 73-year-old hopes “to be back in action soon,” and his next scheduled tour stop is in Fort Worth on November 5th.
LABEL NEWS: Big Machine’s Taylor Swift has partnered with Target Stores to offer an exclusive deluxe version of SPEAK NOW that includes three new tracks, three re-mixes and 30 minutes of video. The Target version will be available through the retailer (online) at the October 25th release date…. Republic /Nashville’s The Band Perry – siblings Kimberly, Neil and Reid Perry – are nominated for “Vocal Group of the Year” for the 44th Annual CMA Awards. This is the trio’s first nomination for a national music award, and the first nomination for an artist on the Republic Nashville label. They are slated as the opening act for legendary country artist Alan Jackson when he kicks off his tour in November. They will perform before rising country star Chris Young on the highly-anticipated tour.
MOVIE NEWS: The 1990 Garth Brooks hit “Unanswered Prayers” is being made into a two-hour Lifetime TV movie. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film follows a happily married man “who must make a tough choice” when his high school flame comes back to town. Actors Eric Close, Samantha Mathis and Madchen Amick have been cast in the lead roles. Unanswered Prayers will premiere in November. They song was penned by Brooks, Pat Alger and Larry Bastian.
MUSIC NEWS: Songwriter/Artist Shawn Camp (“Two Pina Coladas,” “River Of Love”), releasing his new CD titled 1994, the CD landed September 28 alongside the re-release of WB Camp’s self-titled debut.
NARAS NEWS: Country legend Reba will host The Recording Academy‘s tribute to another country legend. Salute To Country Music Honoring Loretta Lynn will be held on Oct 12th at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. Reba, Martina McBride, Gretchen Wilson, Lee Ann Womack and others will perform.
ROW ‘Party’ NEWS: Darius Rucker, Troy Olsen, Luke Bryan, Jennette McCurdy and Walker Hayes will play Capitol Nashville‘s third annual street party Oct 13th. The event kicks off at 6pm on Demonbreun Street in Nashville.
TOUR NEWS: Grammy and Dove Award winning artists Jason Crabb and Guy Penrod will tour together for the first time this Fall, bringing their dynamic “2 VOICES – 1 MESSAGE” Tourr to 18 cities. The tour launches October 8 in Charlottesville, VA and wraps November 18 in Beckley, WV, offering fans plenty of time to catch these two performers as they share the stage for the first time. At every show on the “2 Voices – 1 Message” Tour, Crabb and Penrod will sing separate sets and then join together for a few songs.
