Nashville’s HOTTEST NEW southern rock n’ soul band, Hippies and Cowboys. The band members consist of Aaron Sparling (lead vocal & guitar), Andrew Lambie (lead guitar), Scott Metko (drums), Kevin Corbo (bass), and Nolan Brown (piano & guitar). Their debut single, “20 To Life” will be the first of many single drops along with their EP. They bring a fresh vintage flair in their new single, taking you back to the days of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, CCR, and Aerosmith. As a new up-and-coming band, they have traveled throughout the country, playing shows in Florida to Detroit to everywhere in between. You can find them regularly playing on Broadway in Nashville, TN at Kid Rock’s, Johnny Cash’s, and Tin Roof. Their musical influences and taste vary from member to member. Still, the one thing they all have in common is their love for classic rock and soul music.
Hippies and Cowboys perfectly captures the essence of classic rock n’ roll with a taste of country blues. The mix between lead singer Aaron Sparling’s distinct gritty vocals, crisp guitar riffs, and rich saxophone makes for a high-energy debut in the southern rock scene. “20 To Life” is sure to resonate with all generations and music fans alike.
Nashville Music Guide recently had a chance to do our Lucky 13 Q & A with them and check out what they had to say below.
1. Did you come from a musical background?
I would say I do come from a musical background. My cousins and brother can all sing and play guitar on my dad’s side. My dad also plays, but I’m the only one who does it for a living.
2. What are your musical influences?
Rock n’ roll, soul, and blues are our main influences, but there are lots more. I started out digging old country music like Johnny Cash and Elvis.
3. How do you balance your music career with your other obligations in life?
I try hard to be as organized as possible. It gets tough, I’ll admit, but nothing good comes easy. I just stay motivated.
4. What is a typical day/week like for you?
Super busy. Gigs Thursday- Monday usually every week. Tuesday and Wednesday, we either hit rehearsal or studio. Also, on the two days off, you have to find time to squeeze those other life obligations in there somewhere.
5. What personal advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue this career?
Make sure you want it before you waste time pursuing it because it takes lots of patience and persistence. But if your heart’s in it, you will never give up.
6. What would be your advice to artists that are new to the touring circuit?
Put yourself out there. Meet people. Go to other bands’ shows just like you would want people to come to yours.
7. How would you describe your music to someone that has never heard you before?
We like to call it southern rock n’ soul music. It’s a mixture of southern rock and blues. Maybe even a touch of country roots in there.
8. What do you feel distinguishes “an artist” from just a musician?
The long hours of dedicated work you put into it. Your heart and soul are in every piece of work you touch. You endure the hard times but stick it out because there is nothing else you would rather do. It makes the good times even better.
9. Who does most of the songwriting?
Our lead singer Aaron Sparling.
10. What are your up-to-date performance plans? New Releases? Tours ? News?
We just released our debut single “20 To Life” . We have a full list of dates on our website. Hippiesandcowboys.net
11. If you could perform with anyone in the world – either dead, alive, or broke up – who would it be? Why?
Tom Petty, The Eagles, CCR, Lynyrd Skynyrd. Those bands have been such huge influences on our music. It would be such an honor.
12. As an artist, how would you define SUCCESS?
I think there are many ways to define success. Success to me is being happy. It doesn’t always mean money and fame. Sometimes just putting out great music people love and enjoy is a success.
13. Do you currently have an agent, endorsement(s), record label, sponsor(s)?
We have no agent. We work with a PR company (Publicity Nation) and have one sponsor(Red Dirt Sungrown). We are an independent band doing everything, mostly ourselves at this point. But we are making waves.
