A uniquely gifted songwriter, performer and vocal powerhouse, Melody Guy’s songsweave tales that resonate with music lovers across a wide range of styles. A blend of rock, country, Americana, pop and soul, Guy’s songs deeply touch her fans and inspire them to follow her through a life’s journey of love, loss and independent triumph of the spirit. Artists of varying genres have recorded her songs from Sherrie Austin to Jesse James.
Dry The Rivers features 12 originals songs written by Guy or co-written by Guy partnered with a diverse array of songwriters including Grammy®-winning songwriter, Ray Stephenson (“Hemingway’s Whiskey”, “Red River Blue”); Donnie Skaggs (“Something Stronger Than Me”); Chris Crawford (“I Love You, That’s All”); Zack Lyle (“Good Morning Beautiful”); and Rick Tiger (“What Will You Do With M.E.”). These songs find Guy in tender and defiant moments, sometimes playful, and always honest. In the end this self-described “badass survivor” proves indeed that she is the queen!
Dry The Rivers was produced and engineered by famed musician and producer Michael Webb (Poco, Will Hoge), who also contributed Hammond B3 Organ and piano, accordion, bass guitar, guitar, mandolin, and harmony vocals, at 805 Studio in Nashville. Additional recording was done by P.T. Houston and Austin William Lee at Off The Row Studio and by Chas Williams at REL Studios. For the recording, Guy pulled in a stellar group of musicians including: Richard Bailey (The Steeldrivers) on banjo; Mike Daly (Hank Williams Jr., Travis Tritt) on pedal steel guitar; Chas Williams (Nanci Griffith) on dobro & electric guitars; Rick Lonow(Poco, The Flying Burrito Brothers) on drums; and more.
Guy tours the country year-round as a troubadour, living in her van all the while supporting her son who is “on the spectrum.” Her live performances with her band have garnered much attention, having shared the stage with Keith Urban, The Avett Brothers, Leon Russell and Tanya Tucker, where Melody earned a standing ovation at the famed Ryman Auditorium for her signature song, “Mistakes Like Me.”
