Neil Young & Bob Weir Gig With Rising Band; Tour Rolls Into Dec.

When two of the most formidable names in music history go out of their way for a rising young band, it’s the ultimate honor and a confirmation they are moving in the right direction. So when Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real got to spend time working, separately, with Neil Young and Bob Weir, the meaning wasn’t lost on them.

“I’m blessed to know both of them and really just honored they want to share the journey with us, so to speak,” Nelson says. Lukas is working hard to earn his recognition and has become one of the most promising songwriters, singers and guitarists on the music scene. “My band changed things up this year at Farm Aid and did an acoustic set and Neil really enjoyed our show. After that we ended up throwing some song ideas around which was really cool”. Young recently told Parade magazine that he admires Nelson: “He’s great and I love his music,”

Nelson has also been working with Grateful Dead founding member Bob Weir. “We’ve gotten to know each other really well this year and he’s been a really cool friend. We’re up in San Francisco every once in a while and have jammed together a few times and right before Bridge School he and I decided to do a surprise show together at his club Sweetwater.”

Lukas has also done some work at Weir’s TRI Studios in Marin County. “I got some new songs recorded there with my band Promise of the Real along with a couple friends from college, and we did a Halloween broadcast where Bob came and sat-in on ‘Werewolves Of London.'”

Nelson and band will tour with his father Willie into next month. “I’ll head back to Austin for Thanksgiving and we’ll head out on the road,” he says. Looking to the new year, they’ll be performing on Delbert McClinton’s annual Blues Cruise in January. Recently, Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real released their Live Endings concert album as a gift for fans. Tour dates below.
