The Oak Ridge Boys announced they will release a project with acclaimed producer Dave Cobb in the first quarter of 2018. During an #AmericanaFest listening party at Nashville’s historic RCA Studio A, where the album was recorded, the Oaks performed songs from the yet-untitled project.

This is the group’s second project with Cobb, who produced the Oaks’ acclaimed The Boys Are Back album released in 2009. For the new project, Cobb’s vision for the Oaks was to dig way back into their roots of gospel music. But a different kind of gospel; one that took a hard look at the early days of rock and roll, which was influenced by spiritual, or black gospel. Music & tour news at oakridgeboys.com.

The anthology finds 27 women writers reflecting on the female country artist whose life and music impacted their own life. The eclectic collection that enlists women of all ages, races, orientations, and occupations is already generating buzz among journalists, musicians, and academics. ‘Woman Walk The Line’ represents as many perspectives as there are “kinds” of country music.

At a time when women are still vying for a meaningful place on country radio stations across the nation, these essays demonstrate both why and how the girl singers, as well as songwriters and musicians, carved out some of the genre’s most enduring recordings and empowering personas. “Hold The Light,” is Dierks Bentley’s first-ever song written and recorded for a motion picture. Also featuring Bon Iver’s S. Carey, “Hold the Light” is featured in Columbia Pictures and Black Label Media’s Only The Brave, in theaters nationwide October 20.

The song was written by Bentley, Carey, Joe Trapanese and Jon Randall. Bentley first took action in 2013 when he organized and hosted the Country Cares Concert in Arizona, which raised more than half a million dollars for the families of the Granite Mountain Hotshots.

The new song honors and embodies the spirit of the true heroism depicted in the film and is available now at all digital retailers and streaming partners. Bentley and Carey worked closely with Only the Brave composer Joe Trapanese. In the collaboration, the songwriters worked Trapanese’s film theme into the music of the song, resulting in a song that is integral to the film itself.

To learn more about Only the Brave, see a testimonial video in which Bentley, Carey and survivor Brendan McDonough describe honoring the sacrifice of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, and find out how you can support the wildland firefighter communities through The Granite Mountain Fund, go to OnlyTheBrave-Movie.com and dierks.com.

PROFILES IN COURAGE, FRAILTY AND DISCOMFORT is the title of the debut record from the trio of Eric Brace, Peter Cooper & Thomm Jutz, out now on Eric’s East Nashville label Red Beet Records. All you’ll hear on this mighty collection are their three voices and three acoustic guitars as they render the 14 songs written by these three tall fellows.

In these tunes, they ponder such weighty topics as Dollar Stores and dollar slots, steamboat whistles and Hernando hotel rooms, Johnny Cash’s gravesite and Willie Nelson’s notions of eternity, evaporated whiskey and Neil Armstrong’s silence, the everlasting downside of Parkersburg, West Virginia, and a Tennessee town flooded for the sake of electricity. The album is available now at redbeetrecords.com and iTunes, Amazon, CDBaby, etc.

Country stars Carrie Underwood and Sam Hunt joined hit songwriters Zach Crowell, Matt Jenkins and Bryan Simpson to help raise over $630,000 for Mission Lazarus at the inaugural “Songs On A Mission” event at The Mansion at Fontanel in September.

The star-studded affair was created with the idea of drawing a parallel between how songwriters work in the background crafting hit songs for artists in the same way Mission Lazarus works in the background to serve the indigenous people of Honduras and Haiti. Following a tour of the Mansion and dinner, there were performances by the songwriters who told fascinating stories behind their hit songs.

Carrie Underwood and Sam Hunt closed out the evening performing songs that have been especially meaningful in their lives, both as songwriters themselves and as a tribute of gratitude to the songwriters whose songs they sing. More about the charity at missionlazarus.com.
