Aaron Lacombe is an established and talented singer/songwriter. He further cements his place in the Texas Music Scene with his 5th album, “Breaking Ground”.
This project features eight new tracks with Aaron’s razor-sharp delivery and clever writing style. The collection begins with “Dream Along With Me”, a mid-tempo song about a couple contemplating a long and happy life together.
The title track is an upbeat number about optimism and acceptance. It features some really good fiddle work throughout.
Up next, is a quick-paced, tongue-in-cheek tune called “The Laundry Song”, which celebrates the simple pleasures in life, like the smell of laundry on the line!
The song “Everything Is Different Now” is my favorite cut on the album, it harkens back to great childhood memories and the lifelong love of music. It really highlights the cerebral quality of Aaron’s writing.
“Tired Of Being Right” is commentary on the state of the world right now; from the perspective of someone who has become cynical and has regrets about it.
The next track is an up-tempo fun number called “She Was A Waitress”, about a doomed romance that didn’t work out.
“Fluorescent Lights” is a haunting and powerful mid-tempo song about a friend who is nearing the end of his life, but doesn’t want to spend the time he has left in the hospital. Probably the best overall song on the album, emotional and relatable.
The collection ends with “A Little Something”, which examines both vices and virtues that people may use to cope with their struggles.
This is a strong album from start to finish. Aaron LaCombe delivers vibrant songs with real emotions. From happiness and hopefulness… to love, loss and pain. This is a great addition for any music lover’s collection.
