Compass Records is excited to announce the signing of folk-rock quartet the Farewell Drifters. Called “the best of what’s next” by Paste Magazine and “exuberant, musical intelligence” by No Depression, the group is currently preparing their album Tomorrow Forever for fall 2013 release. “We are super pumped about this new record and felt that it really deserved the added energy of a label behind it. That is why we are so excited to partner with Compass, one of the premier independent roots labels,” says lead singer and guitarist Zach Bevill. “Together, we have a vision for where this record could go and how to take it there. It’s a great time to be a part of this band!”
When Zach Bevill, brothers Joshua and Clayton Britt, and Dean Marold started making music together some eight years ago, they aimed for the sweet spot between bluegrass and the Beach Boys’ artfully crafted, ‘60s studio pop. Their crisp, intricate arrangements and formidable instrumental prowess quickly made the band a crowd pleaser at multi-generational folk festivals and earned them a presence on Americana radio and Billboard’s bluegrass albums chart; their 2010 release Yellow Tag Mondays debuted at #10 and 2011’s Echo Boom debuted at #6. For their new album, the band worked with roots pop producer Neilson Hubbard (Matthew Perryman Jones, the Apache Relay), who helped elevate their crystalline harmonies and acoustic foundation with gutsy electric guitar and orchestral-style drums, illustrating that the Farewell Drifters have much in common with groups like the Avett Brothers and Fleet Foxes.
Billboard Magazine has touted Compass Records Group as one of the leading independent labels of the past decade. The label group is home to more than 500 releases across the Compass Records, Green Linnet and Mulligan Records imprints with a roster that boasts a variety of artists including Colin Hay, Victor Wooten, Claire Lynch, Altan, Peter Rowan, The Gibson Brothers, Darden Smith, BeauSoleil, Michael Cleveland, and label co-founder Alison Brown.
