Five-time Grammy®-winning musician and naturalist VICTOR WOOTEN, best known for his work on bass guitar with Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, will host a series of educational music and nature camps this spring, summer and fall at Victor Wooten’s Center For Music & Nature at Wooten Woods, which is located just outside of Nashville. Now in its 14th year, “Vix Camps” offers the ideal setting for Wooten to share his musical approach of incorporating music and nature with students from around the world. Wooten teaches at each and every camp alongside a variety of skilled guest instructors

Wooten is a highly-respected music educator, author and producer of instructional/inspirational books and DVDS, most notably The Music Lesson: A Spiritual Search for Growth Through Music (Penguin Books), which is now available in 4 languages and is being used in curriculums in schools around the world. The audio book version of this popular novel was nominated for a prestigious Audie Award. Wooten also holds “master classes” at prestigious learning institutions around the world. In early 2013, he held a series of these classes at many of the West-Coast based Guitar Centers. He is a featured educator with the highly-regarded educational video website TED-Ed.

Wooten Woods is a camp/retreat and private event center located in Only, TN, resting on 150 acres along the banks of the beautiful Duck River, owned by Wooten and his wife, Holly. The facility has multiple large buildings for special events and instruction, a huge dome structure, an open-air pavilion, large and small sleeper cabins and houses, a performance barn/meeting space with an indoor/outdoor amphitheater and industrial kitchen, a large bathhouse and plenty of space for personal or event-style tents.

Wooten Woods was featured on the PBS show “Tennessee Crossroads” in April 2012:

Upcoming camps include:

April 11-16, 2013: Bass/Nature Camp
This one-of-a-kind course for bass guitar players offers an unprecedented education from some of the world’s best and most innovative instructors. Through games, blind-fold exercise and unique classes, each day is designed to teach and inform as well as awaken the senses. It introduces the student to the vast world of music, nature, life, and self-discovery.

May 14-19, 2013: Music/Nature Camp
This course offers a unique training for all musicians. Students will spend time with qualified music instructors catering to their specific instrument as well as time in ensemble classes. The expert nature staff will provide exercises and activities designed to heighten the student’s sensitivity and awareness for an unforgettable experience.

June 19-23, 2013: Music/Nature Jr.
Based on the format of the Music/Nature Camp, this camp is geared towards younger musicians (age 8 -17) and is open to players of any instrument. There is no maximum or minimum skill level required. Each day is packed full of fun and surprises with the goal being to build the student’s awareness (and proficiency) in both music and life.

July 22-August 11, 2013: 3-Week Residency
This camp will be intense, but fun. Mornings will start with an activity designed to ready the mind and body for the day’s activities. It includes small group classes rotating between instructors as well as full group workshops and lectures. Wooten will teach at the camp five to six days of each week and will be joined by other music and nature instructors.

September 18-22, 2013: Spirit of Music
This camp explores the spiritual side of music that is sometimes felt, but rarely talked about, and is claimed, by some, to be impossible to teach. Join Wooten and his staff as they explore this hidden side of music. Learn the “invisible” approach to music that Wooten rarely shares with anyone.

October 5-6, 2013: Jam Weekend
This camp recreates how Victor and his brothers spent their childhood weekends making music with one another. This one-of-a-kind gathering will be two complete days of “jamming” with the goal being to have fun while learning from one’s peers. Wooten will be there the whole weekend and will supply a few extra musicians, but the bulk of the jamming will come from the participants.

All camps include lodging. Amenities and pricing for each camp vary, so please check www.vixcamps.com for more information and to fill out an application. Registration for all camps is open now.

Victor Wooten’s Center for Music and Nature is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
