CD Review: Jason Sturgeon, “That’s Me”

Jason Sturgeon

Album: That’s Me Artist: Jason Sturgeon

That’s Me is a concoction of all of Sturgeon’s musical influences and small-town country upbringing that intertwines the strings of his life’s tapestry into every note. All 11 tunes on this Toolpusher Records release are written and co-produced by Sturgeon and Dane Clark, drummer for John Mellencamp Band. The resulting composition is full of contemporary country music that is comparable, if not surpassing to current radio hits. “Simple Life” is a sincere tribute to Sturgeon’s country roots and its beauty. Another melody in the mix is “Hell on Heels,” a rock infused, up-beat tune full of powerful and harmonic blends. Sturgeon has a natural, honest appeal, with a robust and energy-infused vocal delivery, plus a virile tone that could be described as somewhere between Gary Allan and Dierks Bentley.
