Nashville singer-songwriter Shannon LaBrie has released her cover of “All By Myself,” out today on Moraine Records / LaBrie Records. Originally written and recorded by Eric Carmen in 1975, “All By Myself” went on to reach #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been covered by legendary artists including Frank Sinatra, Shirley Bassey, and Celine Dion. “Shannon LaBrie’s haunting and immensely personal recording of ‘All By Myself’ blew me away,” remarks Eric Carmen. “Her achingly gorgeous vocal and stripped down version of my song is unique among the many covers I have heard. It’s not easy to take a song that everyone knows and make it your own. She did, and I love it.” Shannon says, “‘All By Myself’ is probably one of the most influential songs of my life. My Dad put in a small concrete basketball court on our farm in Nebraska. Whenever my brothers got tired I’d turn on the radio and choreograph roller blade dance moves to the song and imagine performing my routine at the Olympics.” Arriving in time for Valentine’s Day this year, LaBrie’s stripped down, solo-guitar, version of this iconic track captures the isolation and vulnerability that Carmen introduced to us over 40 years ago. |
A Lincoln, NE transplant, Shannon LaBrie has spent the past decade in Nashville crafting poignant ballads that don’t shy away from some of the darker moments in her life.
