Waterloo Revival’s “What Guy Wouldn’t” Builds Steam

Opening for Toby Keith and riding a rocketing new single, Show Dog Nashville recording artists Waterloo Revival are enjoying a remarkably hot summer. Austin’s own, George Birge and Cody Cooper – their name refers to the Texas capital’s original moniker – are seeing fans and radio get as excited about their new music as they are.
“What Guy Wouldn’t” was recently added at SiriusXM’s The Highway and early response has fueled more than 3,000,000 streams. The song is more than a fun, young, summer-ready anthem, it’s also got an incredible pedigree. Writers are David Lee Murphy (“Dust On The Bottle,” “Big Green Tractor”), John King (Randy Houser’s “We Went”), and Jason Massey (co-producer for Kelsea Ballerini), who also produced the song with Ken Tondre.
“David Lee Murphy is someone we’ve idolized as an artist and songwriter,” Cooper says. “To have him believe in us enough to give us a song he co-wrote is a pretty incredible feeling.”
Murphy isn’t the only music biz power player giving Waterloo Revival the nod. The duo is also out on the road with label owner Toby Keith, recently opening his first Nashville headlining date in 13 years.
“Being out with Toby has probably been the most surreal thing we’ve gotten to do in our career so far,” Birge says. “The first night of the tour we stayed up until 4am, passing the acoustic guitar with him on his bus and hanging out with SEAL Team Six, who came to the show. It’s been a nonstop party since.”
Meanwhile, the onstage party is ramping up as fans warm to the sound of “What Guy Wouldn’t.” “The biggest thing we try to bring to shows is positive energy and ‘What Guy Wouldn’t’ is one of those upbeat sing-alongs that has the crowd screaming it back to us by the second chorus,” Cooper says. “This is as excited as we’ve ever been about new music!”
