Spain has produced some of the music industries best of the best artists in many various genre’s of music and this group, Stormy Mondays, is the next to be included in that list. The versatility and talent produced from this group will place them high on the charts. As independent artists the sky is the limit on interpretation, presentation, and inspiration. Their music is their signature. These guys are sincere and sure of what they want to produce and perform and that’s what we need in today’s independent artists in order for them to move forward and make their mark on the industry. Diversity and natural born talent.
Their presentation is nothing short of spectacular and their talents in the areas of instrumentation’s and lyrics places them high on the list of outstanding singer/songwriters and performers.
Vocally you’ll find a mixture of Bowie, Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Counting Crows. Various accolades include having won the NASA Space Rock contest and having their song “Sunrise Number 1” played aboard the Endeavor Space Shuttle, performed on stage with Bruce Springsteen at Light of Day benefit in New Jersey, and while they were just teenagers they had Slash of Guns N Roses sit in with them at a show in 1992 in Oviedo, Spain.
Instrumentation on the two singles reviewed is outstanding. I loved the organ and guitar accompaniments. Each song has it’s own unique flavor and I must say I am impressed by them all.
As an artist they are definitely all original and one of a kind. They present their music in all it’s diversity in a way that represents them and only them. All the members of this hot new rising Americana/Folk group are staying true to who they are as artists.
EP #1 is “The Lay of the Land” and opens with “Talking In My Sleep”, this is pure Americana through and through. Reminds me of Bob Dylan. I loved the guitar and the pure flavor it lends to the sincerity of the song. I also enjoyed the balance of the brush on the drum and the light rhythm together.
Production on this collection is by Jorge Otero, lead vocals of the group, and mixed in StudioStav by Michael Stavrou, this album is filled with exceptional talent and deserves a serious listen.
Track #2 “ My Little Darling” almost has the Mexican/Americana feel to it with the guitar intro. Very nice and simple yet compelling to listen to.
Double the dose of Americana and Folk mixed with a taste of light rock and a shot of country is what you experience with this double release. These guys have gone all out to bring the public and amazing package that has something for everyone. How could it not? It is intimate, colorful, and exceptional in creativity.
EP #2 “Wading The River” opens with “Love and Fire” and it has almost a soft country rock opening that I really like. Again I love the power of the Hammond organ and the electric guitar is extremely nice.
Originality is what keeps the young and independent artists making headway in a world of major superstars that have already carved their niche. These guys are carving a serious place of their own and it is sure to move them up in the ranks quickly.
The fifth track on “Wading The River” is very nice; “One Note” is considered to be rock. I think it is a soft rock with a small hint of country. This is a soft ballad rock. Not what you would expect such as something from heavy rockers like The Rolling Stones but more something you would experience with Bowie or Dylan.
As with most all new releases we must understand that not everyone will become a fan but I guarantee that there will be something here for a high majority of the masses. After all….these guys are good.
