It is an honor to once again have the opportunity to review new music released by Ajay Mathur. Recently released just a few weeks ago this album is blasting through the charts and through music reviews. It’s a run away train of some of the best rock/pop music on the airwaves and it’s gaining momentum. His style might be called New Americana, Psychedelic rock, Adult Contemporary, or Urban but I just cannot bring myself to put him one genre or category. It would be wrong.
I’m not surprised by any of the songs on this collection. Ajay has once again gone far beyond the boundaries of normal concepts in the music industry and created, “once again”, a totally unique set of songs. He has no boundaries and his music exceeds all genre’s and styles with taste and superb class.
Since our last review in 2015 he has received huge accolades and recognition for his music. In 2016 he was nominated for a Grammy Award for “Best Rock Song” and “View From The Top” which held 128 weeks on Euro Indie Music Charts.
All of his albums have received excellent reviews and tremendous acknowledgment from the media. They have maintained a steady ranking in charts on the U.S. Top 50 Rock, U.S. Top 80 Independent, U.S. Top 50 AC and Americana (AMA) airplay charts.
“Nothing Really Matters” is timeless, boundless, and shares a freedom that you’ll not find with another artist. He is that one of a kind that happens along that just blows you away. It can be dark but yet it’s enticing and inviting.
His work is a continuous success story, with the first single WALKING ON THE WATER hitting the U.S. Airplay Top 80 Independent Chart at #59 on May 23rd 2015. The song stayed on various charts for 12 consecutive weeks, peaking at #14. Since then, both the follow-up singles have performed extremely well on various airplay charts. MY WORLD (SOS TO THE UNIVERSE) ranked on U.S. airplay charts for 16 consecutive weeks, peaking at #4 on Top 50 Rock Chart. VIEW FROM THE TOP, the third single release from ‘9 to 3’ peaked at #1 on National Airplay Top 50 Rock Chart and charted for 105 weeks on European Independent Music Top 200 Chart. In 2016, „Nothing Really Matters” (UPC 190394716257), the latest single from the album ‚9 to 3′, was nominated forGrammy Award. “Nothing Really Matters”, acclaimed “a masterpiece of elegant darkness” by Jeremy Davis, Ethno Cloud, has ranked on various U.S. airplay charts (Top50 Rock, Top80 Independent, Top50 Adult Contemporary) and on European Independent Music Top10 Chart. ~Independent Music Promotions~
Ajay is a Grammy nominated singer/songwriter who is a true citizen of the world. Born in India and making his home in Switzerland he creates his own style of some of the most distinctively remarkable expressions of verse I’ve ever heard. From the lyrics to the music his work is impeccable.
Little Boat was produced by Ajay Mathur and recorded and mixed by Ajay at The Lounge. It was mastered by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road Studios.
All songs on this collection written, arranged, performed and produced by Ajay Mathur as well as the
artwork and design.
Musicians on this album are Ajay Mathur on guitars, vocals, backup vocals, keyboards, guitar and field effects. The talented Christian Winiker on guitars, lap steel guitar, and bass. Then we have Fausto Medici on drums and percussion, Gregory Schaerer on bass and Dani Lauk on blues harp, Cajon accordion, and tin whistle. Then we have Rupak Pundit on tablas percussion. Critics will place him in the style of New Americana, Psychedelic rock, Adult Contemporary, Urban but I place him in the style of infinite. Mathur has been likend to artists such as The Beatles, David Bowie, Tom Petty, Jackson Browne and I’ll throw in some soft Metallica and the ever rocking Bruce Springsteen.
