Nashville Music Guide’s Artists to Watch 2023

Megan Moroney is one of Nashville’s most exciting up and coming artists. Known for the song “Tennessee Orange” averaging 5 million-plus streams per week and has garnered over 500K Tik-Tok followers.

Moroney grew up in a musical household in Douglasville, Georgia and began writing songs her freshman year at the University of Georgia. It actually stemmed from Chase Rice catching her perform a few songs when opening for Jon Langston at a show. Rice invited her to open for him at the iconic Georgia Theatre with the agreement that Megan had to include an original song in the set. From there, she developed a love for storytelling and has become known for her distinctive voice and honest, conversational lyrics. Her writing is heavily influenced by legendary songwriters in classic country, southern rock, and Americana. She also gained a mentor in Kristian Bush through her first internship at the Classic Center in Georgia and reached out to him for some guidance once she moved to Nashville in 2020 after graduation. She spent that year writing her first EP.

Her debut EP Pistol Made of Roses also includes her single “Hair Salon.” She was recently named to Amazon Music’s 2023 Breakthrough Artists to Watch: Country Class, and Pandora’s Country Artists to Watch in 2023. She will make her debut on the Grand Ole Opry this February and her first headlining tour is set for this Spring.
