Nashville Music Guide’s Artists to Watch 2024

Artists to Watch #6

Following the acclaimed release of his debut EP, No Better Time, last Fall, the notably talented 24-year-old Texan vocalist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Dylan Gossett has unveiled his latest musical offering, the single “Bitter Winds.” This new work is currently available through Big Loud Texas / Mercury Records.

After his exceptional success with the single “Coal,” which marked Gossett’s inaugural appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 and has accrued over 115 million streams globally, Gossett continues to make notable strides in his musical career. “Coal” has also made a commendable return to its zenith position at number 26 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs Chart and has re-entered the Spotify US Top 200 Chart.

Gossett showcases an impressive array of skills in his EP No Better Time, which was autonomously written, recorded, produced, and mixed within the confines of his bedroom. Through songs such as the title track “No Better Time,” listeners experience a harmonious blend of harmonica and acoustic guitar, and are immersed in Gossett’s heartfelt advocacy for embracing the present. Other tracks, such as “Flip A Coin,” present evocative imagery paired with the reassuring promise of leaving one’s troubles behind. In “Lone Ole Cowboy,” Gossett channels the essence of timeless country music, offering a candid look into his own experiences and emotional landscape.

As an artist on the rise, Gossett established momentum for No Better Time with the preceding release of “Beneath Oak Trees.” His work has been met with enthusiasm from the country music community; Holler Country named him among “10 New and Upcoming Country and Americana Artists You Need to Know,” while Country Chord has defined him as a remarkable new presence within the genre. Country Central has hailed “Beneath Oak Trees” as a benchmark in songwriting for Gossett.

In the wake of his first Australian tour supporting Noah Kahan, Gossett eagerly anticipates his own headline tour, No Better Time Tour, which is entirely sold out. Commencing on February 26th in Dublin, he is scheduled to perform in a multitude of cities including London, Chicago, Washington, D.C., New York, Atlanta, Nashville, and throughout Texas. Additionally, this spring denotes his debut at several festivals, among them, SXSW in Austin, the Tortuga Music Festival in Ft. Lauderdale, and more, with appearances supporting Midland on select dates.

Dylan Gossett, an Austin native, initiated his journey with music during his middle school days, self-educating on guitar through online resources and counsel from his older sibling. His musical palate was cultivated by a family that cherished the works of Alan Jackson, George Strait, Journey, The Eagles, Scorpions, and Boston, later expanding to include the tunes of Turnpike Troubadours, Flatland Cavalry, and Cody Johnson. Throughout his tenure at Texas A&M University, he continued to hone his craft. Gossett, a passionate Formula 1 enthusiast, secured employment with Circuit of the Americas. In the spring of 2023, he began disseminating his music online to great effect, capturing an audience with a cover of The Lumineers’ “Ophelia,” eventually gaining recognition with a cover of Flatland Cavalry. The advent of summer witnessed a surge in his popularity, propelled by his autonomous debut single “To Be Free,” which went viral on TikTok and has since amassed nearly 6 million Spotify streams. However, it was the single “Coal” that truly signaled Gossett’s emergence on the music scene.
